DoorDash on Friday released its filing to go public, which revealed a boom in business and shrinking losses during the coronavirus pandemic as more people confined to their homes ordered in restaurant food.

And while plenty of startups said they were forced to cut jobs to stretch their operating budgets earlier this year, the delivery unicorn, last valued by its private investors at $16 billion, has been hiring nonstop. It lists 217 openings at its San Francisco headquarters, where most of its corporate jobs are. DoorDash's workforce more than doubled to 2,600 employees from the end of 2018 to the end of 2019.

That does not include the thousands of delivery drivers who are not on its corporate payroll and classified as independent contractors. Because they are not employees, the company isn't required to give them the benefits that full-time employee receive, like minimum wage, paid time off, and health insurance — an exemption that was reinforced with the passage of a California ballot measure this month.

In the company's S-1 filing, Doordash CEO Tony Xu wrote that employees were its "greatest competitive advantage."

So we did some digging to find out if they're compensated as such. And the short answer appears to be yes. Our research shows that employees across technical and business roles can expect six-figure salaries.

The US Office of Foreign Labor Certification requires companies to disclose compensation for permanent and temporary employees from outside the US to make sure the firms aren't paying them less than the average wage earned by their peers. DoorDash's federal filings give a sense of how much the company pays for some roles.

Business Insider went through data released in 2020. This is salary information only and doesn't include other compensation, and many of these white-collar employees can expect stock awards, the CEO said.

"Like the problems we solve, working at DoorDash is challenging," Xu wrote in the company's prospectus. "We have stretch goals and we increase them when we beat these goals, always raising the bar. To foster this ownership mentality, we believe in using equity as an important part of our employee compensation."

When there were multiple jobs with the same title, we included a salary range.

Take a look at how much DoorDash's full-time employees earn.

Almost all the roles that DoorDash filled from overseas involved software engineering, which isn't surprising because DoorDash is at its heart a tech company.

Software-engineering roles comprised 30 of the 39 roles in the dataset.

Most of these were for software engineers of unspecified specialty, meaning they were simply called a software engineer, so we don't know exactly what kind of work was involved, be it infrastructure, ad products, or mapping.
